EUROSORT FREQUENTLYASKED QUESTIONS
What is a typical lead time for a EuroSort sortation system?
Our sorters have a lead time of between 8-11 months from PO to hand-over. This depends on a number of factors including production capacity, the size and complexity of the sorter, and the space. If you have a tight lead time, just ask us and we’ll see what we can do!
Where are EuroSort automated sorters produced?
The trays and structure of the sorter are produced in one of our 3 production facilities in the Netherlands. The chutes, controls, and accessories are made in our Maryland facility.
Is EuroSort European-based?
Our US operations in Owings Mills, MD have been around for the last 22 years, and we run all US projects out of that office. Maryland is where all North American service and support, software, engineering, project management and production teams are based.
How fast does the automated sorter run?
EuroSort sorters generally run between 1-1.2 m/s. This is fairly slow for the incredibly high throughputs of our sorters, and a lot of the secret lies in how close the trays can be to each other. This increases the trays per hour even at this “slower” speed, improves safety and ergonomics, and allows for manual induction saving cost and increasing flexibility.
How do you put items on the sorter?
Items can be placed onto the sorter in a few different ways: 1.) Manually via operators 2.) Automatically via our parallel induction or the industry standard 45 degree inductions 3.) Automatically with robotic induction
What companies use EuroSort sorters?
We have over 100 different customers using these pieces of equipment, and while we do have NDA’s with many, some names we can share are The GAP, The USPS, Ariat, Book Depot, Mouser Electronics, Pitney Bowes, OSM, Hachette Book Group, ACS Courier, Logistar, PostNL, HEB, S.Oliver, Pepco, PostNord, Sports Direct, and Costco.
Can the sorter grow if we outgrow it?
Yes, EuroSort sorters can be expanded and/or sped up depending on the need. Many of our customers plan for the future by utilising this expansion potential, allowing for additional chutes in the layout, or even leaving room for a second sorter in the space saved from the old process.
Why does a sorter help improve efficiency?
A sorter helps efficiency in many ways: Reduces walk time during picking, Increases the throughput of a facility by about 3-4x, Improves order accuracy, Allows for significantly quicker training by simplifying tasks
What is a batch pick?
A batch pick means that an operator is picking for a batch of orders (typically between 100-700). The theory behind that is that with proper set-up, the operator will be able to pick larger numbers of items with each visit to a pick location, reducing the number of times that the operator needs to go to that location.
How does an automated sorter reduce walk time?
Putting a sorter in allows your operation to switch to a batch style of picking, in which each operator is picking for 100’s of orders at a time. This means that instead of going to a location for 1 item, the operator will go for 30 items, reducing their trips to that locations drastically. This improves efficiency by reducing the walk time to that location (among other efficiencies)
Why does an automated sorter reduce labor?
An automated sorter reduces labor by allowing operations to switch from a cluster pick or order pick to a batch pick. A batch pick means that the pickers will pick items for a batch of 100-500 orders at a time (or more!). Pickers will go back to the same locations significantly less times throughout the day. Ultimately the labor savings come from the reduction in walk-time, reduction in overall picking time, and reduction in handling.
How easy is an automated sorter to maintain?
With some basic training, anyone can maintain a EuroSort sorter. The sorter design is focused on easily being able to swap broken parts out for new ones to keep your sorter spinning.
How much energy does an automated sorter typically use?
EuroSort sorters generally use between 10-40 amps of 480V 3-phase power. This is much lower than comparable technologies that can use upwards of 300 amps and contributes to EuroSort’s sustainability commitment.
Is EuroSort an integrator?
No, EuroSort focuses exclusively on selling the sorters that it produces. EuroSort will typically work under an integrator to provide a full system to its customers. For more information, visit our integrator page.
